As a communication leader at publicly traded technology companies such as National Instrument, Dell, and Convio, I have had the opportunity to participate in numerous leadership and executive training programs. The time I spent in executive coaching with Shelly Priebe has been by far the most productive. She was contracted by Compass Learning for a six month engagement designed to help prepare me for leadership at Vice President level. Shelly collaborated with my manager, getting his initial input on the goals we set, checking with him on progress mid-term and at the end of the engagement. After each session she delivered a concise report with recommendations to me and at the conclusion of the engagement she delivered a summary of accomplishments and actions forward to me and to my manager. Not only was Shelly able to help me focus on my strengths and help me overcome my self-limiting behaviors, she helped me understand more effectively and directly how my leadership and behaviors would help the company meet our financial and branding goals. I highly recommend Shelly Priebe for coaching corporate leaders.
Shelly has helped me in my career development by being a reliable, honest and trusted sounding board. Shelly is an experienced, intelligent, compassionate, energetic and wise executive coach. She is unique as she draws from her own hands-on executive experience. She has in-depth knowledge of corporations, how they function and how to get things done with integrity and real results. She has a deep understanding of the ongoing challenges facing executives in various phases of their careers. With street-smart she cuts through all the layers going to the heart of what matters most to make you successful. Plus she is super fun to work with! I highly recommend her.”
I worked with Shelly for most of year 2013 and every hour spent together was very helpful and productive. It quickly became a very powerful development tool for me as company Managing Director. Not only was Shelly a great “sparring partner“ helping me to be very precise about my goals and plans, but also every coaching session was a natural check-point to verify if we were on the right track with executing the plan. Coaching provided by Shelly not only increases your self-motivation but also forces you to evaluate the progress you are making. I started with a 3 months trial engagement but continued for 9 months. I truly recommend working with Shelly!
An executive colleague recommended Shelly Priebe to help navigate meaningful next steps for my career. I evaluated multiple options and selected Shelly after we met and talked through her approach. I am high intensity and work at a fast pace; I was looking for a coach who would work with an intensity level that matched mine.
I am a senior executive with 19 years of global leadership experience in multinational companies. My most recent role was as a Director at Dell where I led a global team of engineers, solution architects, program managers, marketing and sales in a business division that went from start up to $100MM in three years.
In the very first session Shelly was able to help me understand my personal brand in truly differentiated terms that we have leveraged in all of our work moving forward. She engaged me in an interview that was conversational in nature. Now and then something would catch her attention and she would delve in with more detailed questions, bringing out information that I normally would not offer. The free flow of the conversation belied the result. The deliverable was a report on her perception of my personal brand in concise bulleted format for my review and comment. She nailed it by calling out empowering differentiators that I had not previously highlighted .
Shelly’s ability to understand her clients psyche and personalize the coaching to suit the individual is her differentiator. She will be an asset to any organization and the value she brings to the executive team will be quickly evident and tangible. I highly recommend her an executive coach.
I have had the pleasure of working with Shelly Priebe during my tenure with two distinctively different technology companies. Our first engagement began as a referral from a colleague at EMC. While at EMC, I was responsible for managing the Enterprise Backup and Recovery Solutions division in Texas. Presently, Shelly continues to advise me with my current employer Exagrid, as the Vice President of Sales for the Western US.
I have utilized coaching for many years and it has played an integral part in my ability to provide the highest level of service to the organization for which I am employed and in the continual development of my own personal career objectives. While the executive coaching I have received from other coaches has proven to be beneficial, there are three distinct areas in which Shelly has been able to provide both myself and the companies I work for the greatest benefit.
- Realization of Corporate Objectives – Every corporate culture and political nature is different. Shelly’s guidance has aided me in that as I successfully lead my team the objectives of the company I represent are the primary guiding factor. Understanding how I impact corresponding business units and the company as a whole is always at the forefront of my decisions process.
- Team Leading and Development –Shelly has been integral in helping to create sound practices with regard to team leadership and development. During our tenure I have constructed and maintained high performing teams that are consistently recognized for their accomplishments. Through the continual development of my team I have been able to promote several key members, which in turn has given me significant brand recognition.
- Career Advancement – Career advancement does not happen by chance, it is the result of a focused strategy that is in line with your personal and organizations objectives. Shelly has been instrumental in guiding my career path which has led to several personal career advancements.
Coaching has been a central part of the success that I have realized personally and for the companies I represent. During my tenure I have had the opportunity to work with executive coaches in various situations, all which have been helpful but Shelly has had the most profound influence. Shelly’s real world experience focuses on the realization of corporate objectives, team leading and development, and career advancement, thus allowing her to provide the critical insight needed to develop executives.
Shelly has been working with me for almost two years. I am a VP at a marketing agency who runs a $60M business. When I first started working with Shelly, the account was on the rise. Her guidance and perspective have helped me grow my team — determining who are the right people to make our business even stronger. We are now looking to grow the business to over $90M. Most VPs at my company runs books of business around $10M-$30M per year. I am one of 120 VPs at my company and 1 of 12 woman VPs (company size is over 10,000 people globally). I chose to work with Shelly separate from any company programs to ensure I had a true trusted advisor — someone who was solely focused on my long-term growth. She has guided me during the most difficult times in the last year. The 400+ team that I manage was struggling with a lower than expected margin, we had a wide range of people issues as well as client management issues. Shelly showed me how to leverage the tools and skills I already have developed and continue to grow my capabilities. Due to her coaching, I now run a very aligned and successful team that understands how to navigate difficult challenges without my direct support. I have learned how to empower my team and continue to be creative about the business we work on for our client.
Shelly is focused on her clients. I know she has a full view of my situation without seeing me in person on a regular basis. We talk every two weeks and she is completely engaged and dedicated to my success. I am very appreciative of the way she coaches — with complete respect while challenging me to think and act with edge. She would be an asset to any company that wants their people to think and aspire to C-level talent.
I can’t even begin to describe the creativity and clarity that Shelly provided for me during a critical season. Not only did she clearly define the purpose and point of each meeting, but she would meticulously send a summary of executables as a follow up to each session. I’ve spent the past 20 years inspiring and coaching others towards greater, yet Shelly was able to coach me towards greater!
As the great Yogi Berra once said – “You can observe a lot by watching”. Shelly was my active watcher; constantly observing, discovering, describing and getting me to finally see the behaviors I was previously unaware of and that were working against both the business and my own success. Shelly was not deterred by the fact that my first problem was that I didn’t really understand the role of a coach. She worked with me, adapting her own considerable skills to my personal style. In the end, she delivered the perfect coaching blend of persuasion, cajoling, and sometimes just downright persistence to get me to simplify and clarify my communication style, connect my actions to the company’s top business priorities and succeed in a complex client facing role.
Not only is Shelly Priebe very good at what she does, but she’s a good person as well. In Shelly’s line of work, these are not separate things, but rather the two come together for the benefit of her clients. Coaches must not only be good listeners, but they must also be good guides. Shelly is an expert at both, fully understanding when and how to tactfully get her clients back on track by turning negative circumstances into positive action. She is a highly ethical individual with a strong heart for serving others, both of which help her see beyond herself to truly focus on putting the client’s needs first.
